God and God Alone

Important Documents and Essays

This is how it all started - inmates were asking me what the Bible said on specific issues, and God inspired me to write about those issues on paper. Most of the documents listed below were written while I was in prison. A few were written before, and a few after. And some were written by others. Scroll though the list - I am certain you will find a document responsive to your current and pressing need or interest. If not, just stick around because we add to this list regularly.

Also please note that these are not shallow and superficial and SHORT answers to complex issues. God knows that there are enough of those! In fact, I believe I am totally incapable of supplying answers that are shallow and superficial and SHORT. Shallow and short answers to deep and important issues result in shallow spiritual lives. It is only when we see and UNDERSTAND what God wants us to know about him that our love will grow and our lives will change. This understanding usually REQUIRES that we "diligently study to show yourself approved."

When I think of all this, I fall to my knees and pray to the Father, the Creator of
everything in heaven and on earth. I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources
he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. Then Christ will make his
home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into the love of God and
keep you strong. And may you have the power to understand, as all the people of God should,
how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. May you experience the love of
Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with
all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.

[Ephesians 3:14-19, New Living Translation]

Important Documents and Essays

Was Jesus God? Did Jesus really claim he was GOD? Or was it just those around him who said so? Or was it just his followers many years later who STARTED the whole idea that Jesus was God? This is a VERY IMPORTANT QUESTION and one which Scripture answers very clearly. But you have to listen with ears that are 2000 years old if you expect to understand the answer.
The Word of God Is Not A Book All Christians believe the Bible is the Word Of God. Yet some Christians worry about which translation of the Bible is the right translation. Others argue that one version is the Word of God and all other versions are tools of Satan intended to deceive the World. So which translation is truly the right one to read? Is only one version inspired? This article addresses those questions and more, and offers some clarifications and some insights into the issues.
Biblical Truth This essay is written to resolve the CLAIM that there are so many different interpretations of the Bible that this disparity calls into question the meaning, or the inspiration, of the Bible. The question is often asked, by those who believe in the Bible and those who do not, "if we can't agree on what the Bible MEANS, then how can we believe in the Bible at all?"
Mark 2 - Declaration of War The Second Chapter in the Gospel According to Mark shows Jesus confronting the religious leaders of his time. Many sermons and articles have been written on the early ministry of Jesus - even on Jesus confronting those religious leaders. But few if any teach that Jesus declared war on the religious leaders of his time in the second chapter of Mark. Read this and see if you don't agree that Jesus announced early in his ministry that he was declaring a spiritual war.
Man Born Blind The Ninth Chapter in the Gospel According to John shows a simple story of Jesus healing a man who was blind from birth. But this was not at all a simple miracle. In this act of kindness and mercy, Jesus spoke volumes about several doctrinal issues. He also gave Christians a model for what a sinner goes through in his path to Jesus. Being mindful of this model will make our efforts at sharing the Gospel much more exciting and effective.
Does God Send People To Hell? Some people have rejected a God who would send people to an eternity of punishment just for making a mistake, or for not doing everything they were told, or for not responding to God just the way he wants. And those people just don't know they are wrong about God, and they are rejecting him for something he does not do. This essay shows us God's answer the ever important question - "Does God Send People To Hell?"
Salvation - What is it? There is a lot of misinformation and even disinformation running around about what exactly is salvation - how do you get saved? This essay looks at what the Bible actually says about getting and being saved in simple terms, using Scripture itself to teach. Read it and you just might learn something, even if you have been a Christian for many years.
Predestination This is an essay I wrote back in 1998 to resolve an argument between 3 friends of mine. I believe this essay gives the issue far more time than it deserves, and many hours more time then the biblical Writers thought that it was worth. But since Christians have debated this issue for 2,000 years, I decided to jump in. And I am presenting an entirely new perspective on the issue, showing how Scripture would suggest that the two classic positions on the issue are both incomplete in their understanding of the issue, and inaccurate in their uses of Scripture in the debate. Read it and see if the debate is finally settled to your satisfaction. BTW, this is one of my shorter essays, in case that is important to you.
Judging Others Christians are told often that we are not to judge others. But is this REALLY what Scripture says? Many teachers and leaders have written and spoken on this issue but most offer a short discussion on a HUGE issue. This essay is not a short discussion. It is my attempt to fully answer this terribly important question.
Why Get Baptized There has been 2,000 years of debate on the issue of baptism. Some believe that you are not saved until you are baptized. Some people believe that you are somehow saved better if you are baptized. Some people believe that you must be baptized when you are very young, and others believe that you must wait until you are an adult to be baptized. Seriously, it sometimes seems that Baptism is the most complicated doctrine in the Bible. Yet Scripture seems to present it so simply. This essay looks closely at the issue of Baptism, and it includes topics like when and how.
The Ministry of the Holy Spirit Jesus was clear and specific when he spoke about the ministry of the Holy Spirit. What does the Holy Spirit say and do when he interacts with people? It seems from John Chapter Nine that the Holy Spirit has three focused ministries, or sets of actions, here on earth. This essay explores those activities and the three separate groups he speaks to.
Eternal Salvation This essay started out to be a simple discussion of the old argument concerning "Eternal Security," or whether or not a Christian can lose his/her salvation. But the deeper I probed into the subject, the more Truth God showed me. Ultimately, God's revelations led me to conclude that those who argue this issue see only a small amount of the Truth involved in salvation. Plus, God showed me a whole lot more! This is a long essay, and it explores eternal security, predestination, and the PURPOSE of salvation. This is clearly the most important study I have ever conducted, and God showed me more about him than I have ever seen before. I truly believe you will grow in your relationship with God if you read this essay.
MountainTop Experiences Can modern American Christians survive REAL Christianity? Can we make it in a life that is NOT ideal? Can we hold on to Christ while he takes the time to work in our lives the way he chooses? This article explores the MountainTop Experience; the "feel-good" events that we seek; the all-day-long joy of walking with Jesus down a path that never has thorns or thistles and that never causes you to stumble. Can contemporary Americans survive, and can they continue pursuing and loving and serving God, when it looks like life is getting tough? This article looks at MountainTop Experiences, and the hidden dangers in them.
The Trinity This is a conversation between God and God and God, offered in a tongue-in-cheek manner. I trust you will read it in that way and forgive the unorthodox portrayal of an Infinite Being. But since mankind cannot understand the infinite, perhaps this is not unorthodox at all. Perhaps it might - just might - be true.
The Bus Stop This is a modern parable that explores the need for Believers to think of and pursue going home. A short essay but one that I believe will have a lasting impact on your daily walk with God.
A Simple Canvas This is another modern parable and it presents the need to let God do his job in our lives without our well-intended but often inept interference.
Christian Political Activism Are Christians called by God to submit to our political leaders and to the course they have set for America? The Thirteenth Chapter of Romans demands that Christians submit to the governing authorities. But what is Paul really telling us in that passage, and in other similar passages? This essay examines the authority which Romans 13 calls Christians to support.
Your Moral World View You have most likely not thought about it, but your World Moral View is almost certainly inconsistent within itself. Specifically, you almost certainly hold certain beliefs that are not compatible with your major beliefs systems. This article will help you deny or accept that statement. You probably should not read this article, especially if you lean towards a liberal social perspective.
What I Believe Over the years I have been asked so many times I have lost count what exactly I believe about a long list of issues. Finally, several years ago, I decided to create a document describing some of my beliefs. I did not write this document to make anyone feel good or to agree with any other viewpoint - I wrote this document to clarify to me exactly what I believed on a number of issues that I confront nearly every day. Feel free to react to this essay how you want.
Gay Marriage Quoting directly from the article: I am going to address all the recent stories on television, on Facebook, and all over the Internet concerning so-called gay marriage. But first, I need to explain why I used the phrase "so-called gay marriage." I believe that there is no such thing as "gay marriage," and I am about to tell you why. This article presents and analyses several Supreme Court cases in an attempt to understand how the Court sees this issue, and to predict how the Court will ultimately decide the issue. Please note: this article was written six months before the Supreme Court issued its very controversial decision in the summer of 2015. If you read this article, you will understand that the 2015 Decision cannot and will not stand legal challenge. The Court itself will overturn its own Decision someday soon.
Patriotism versus Nationalism This is a speech I gave several years ago at the Free Speech Forum of the Political Science Department of the University of Tennessee. It explains why so many unconstitutional actions by our federal government can be accomplished without government or legal sanction. All Americans need to read this article.
A Personal Experience in Prison A personal experience I had in the early days of my incarceration involved a personal threat and very real danger to me because of my Faith - I was threatened with death if I continued conducting an inmate Bible study. Fortunately, God protected me.
A Celebration of Darwin's Birthday This is a discussion drawn directly from Facebook where several people discussed Darwin's Theory of Evolution and the Naturalistic Religious Philosophy that has arisen in support of "molecules to man" evolution. I found it fascinating, and some of you will, too.
Inductive Bible Study I have described a method of studying the Bible that I was taught early on in my Christian life, and it totally changed the way I study the Bible. I gain more truth through this process than anything else I have ever done. It is a simple process, and can be accomplished by anyone who can read. AND it is a process that most inmates can use inside any jail or prison. Try it, and I believe you will benefit greatly!
Illegal Immigration I have read a great many articles on illegal immigration but I have never seen a solution that will actually work. And apparently neither has Congress or it would have enacted legislation that would fix this great problem. One of the reasons we have seen no solution is because Congress and our paid public servants know they are LYING to Americans about how bad the problem really is. I have proposed a solution to the problem that addresses both how bad the problem really is as well as how to fix this really bad problem.
